Recommendations for Change - # 66

Prior to the class entry, the judge shall be provided a list of the exhibitor numbers and the breed-type of the mule. Example--quarterhorse, saddlebred, etc.

Justification and impact if rule is not changed

The rules and the committee have stated that the mule should be judged by their breeding. How can a judge make that decision if he/she does not know the breeding? Most of the judges are AQHA or APHA judges. So, they are basing the conformation on what a quarterhorse mule should look like. That does not give a TWH, Appaloosa, Saddlebred or Thoroughbred horse an even opportunity. They will naturally have longer backs and narrower hips. When I questioned one of the board members on this, I was told they are suppose to judge the mule on its' breedings. How? The person should be able to either state the breeding when they enter the arena or a list should be provided to the judge before the entries enter the arena. We are the only breed where 1/2 of the animal could be anytype of breeding. In this case, to be fair in the judging, the judge needs to know the breeding of that animal.
